How to Beat the Brain Blues

How to Beat the Brain Blues

Human brains are naturally wired to fixate on the negative, but being a pessimist can be a real drag. To banish negative thoughts you need to change the way you view the world; rather than concentrating on what’s wrong, celebrate all that’s right.

What’s the point of bothering to ‘think positive’? In addition to making you and others around you happier, being positive;

  • increases your life span
  • decreases stress and depression
  • increases your resilience to common colds
  • improves your overall mental and physical health
  • improves your coping skills
  • improves your ability to form and maintain relationships

So now you’re sold, let’s achieve a positive outlook.

Take control

In a single day people have around 60,000 thoughts. First of all you must accept that all 60,000 of these thoughts are yours and yours alone. It can be hard not to be influenced by other people but they do not control what happens in your mind, only you have the power to control your thoughts.

Smile once in a while

Simply smiling can alter your mood. Even Mother Teresa knew “peace begins with a smile” because smiling has been proven to lower stress. Furthermore smiling is contagious, if you are beaming away people around are likely to follow and feel good too.

Surround yourself with positivity

Positivity is like a surge of energy, surrounding yourself by it means you will be charged to face anything and are more likely to achieve your goals.

Practice relaxation

Restore your inner peace by cleansing your mind of negative emotions and encouraging positive ones. Taking time out gives yourself a chance to ‘breathe’ and reflect on everything around you.

A work out can do wonders for your mind as well as your body. Exercising releases endorphins creating a feeling of ‘euphoria’ and improving self esteem. Additionally whilst you are engaged in your activity your mind is distracted and cleared of daily stresses. A 30 minute moderate to high intensity workout will leave you fighting fit to face the day.
